I am a barrister called to the Bar in 1999 and am a member of a well respected set of Chambers in central London.

Barristers
Traditionally Barristers are seen as the trial advocates of the English legal system. A very useful description of the role of a barrister can be found here.

In the past much like specialist surgeons, barristers could only be asked to work on a case ("instructed") by a fellow professional. In the case of barristers this was done by a solicitor. However since 6 July 2004, the professional body that regulates the conduct of barristers, the Bar Standards Board, has allowed for certain barristers to accept work direct from members of the public under the Direct Public Access Scheme.

I am one of those barristers who is qualified to accept instructions directly from members of the public and have set up this website to assist any person who wishes to instruct me this way.

Benefits of Direct Public Access
In short: often there are tasks that simply do not need both a solicitor and a barrister to complete. By instructing the barrister directly you can save yourself a lot of duplication of work and yet still recieve the quality of service your case deserves.
